A panel discussion led by Zahra Haji Fath Ali Tehrani, charity director of YWMP, looking at the work of the charity’s Safer Spaces project. The Safer Spaces Steering Committee has been creating a policy to be introduced in grassroots music venues around the country, aiming at making live music safer and more accessible for all demographics while centering marginalised people. Join this panel in its exploration of the intersectional challenges and barriers to working towards safer spaces in live music venues, and enquiry into the various perspectives of the panel members on the impact the policy would have on them and their music scenes.

Panellists
Zahra Haji Fath Ali Tehrani is a musician and director of YWMP who has pioneered a safer spaces policy in collaboration with young people to disrupt the status quo of grassroots gig-going culture to make gigs safer for all.
Willow Torin has been part of YWMP for three years working as a young person from within to help develop and implement the project’s safer spaces policy. This has allowed YWMP to create inclusive, accessible environments in live music venues that support young people’s expression, safety, and community.
Estella Adeyeri is the Communications Coordinator at Good Night Out, the campaign for Safer Nightlife. Her role encompasses liaising with press and partner organisations regarding GNO’s work in preventing and responding to harassment and other harms on nights out.
Mila Serneabat Ungar is a Project Leader for Spark the Noise, a music charity that runs programmes for young women, trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming people, valuing community, collaboration, disruption and joy. Mila joined the Spark the Noise community as a participant in 2017, moving on to youth volunteering and band coaching and is now taking the lead on a traineeship for young people interested in entering different areas of the music industry.
Vanessa Govinden is a London-based musician dedicated to sustainability, equity, and safer practices in the live music industry. In 2023, she co-founded Offshoot Tours, a touring initiative that supports emerging artists and tour managers from underrepresented backgrounds, with a focus on ethical and environmentally conscious touring.
