20th May – Decolonise yr Art – Collage Workshop @ DSFL

DIY Diaspora Punx guest host a collage making workshop to create a piece of work for the will be on display as part of the Decolonise Fest Art Show (Decolonise Fest June 2,3,4 ) asking “what’s it like to be a punk of colour?"

Date/Time: 20th May / 14:30-18:00

Location: DIY Space for London, 96-108 Ormside Street, SE15 1TF London

Price: It is a pay-what-you-can event, with a suggested price of £6 or £3 for concessions. The money goes into improving the print space, buying materials and running more workshops and events. The workshop is run by volunteers from the print collective and DIY Diaspora Punx. No one turned away for lack of funds.

To answer this we’re going to create a large collage, together with all the attendees – cutting images from magazines and books, and using images from our own lives, recombining them to create another art work. This is about YOUR lived experience of being a punk of colour so please bring things from your background / heritage images that have shaped your experiences.

This is open to all skill levels. We will supply tools, technical know-how and a brief intro to cultural appropriation and the marginalisation of the history of people of colour in punk, and intro to the print collective. We would love it if you can bring inspiration from your own roots and challenge how your history has been marginalised or affected by colonialism.

Please pre-book a space, by emailing printcollective@diyspaceforlondon.org letting us know what you would like to book and how much you would like to pay.

To attend this event you must be a member of DIY Space For London, or a guest of a member. Membership costs £2, lasts for a year and you can join online: diyspaceforlondon.org/join.
